Why Six Senses help One Tree
Six Senses supports One Tree at a Time to help keep outdoor gear in use, reduce waste, and empower local communities. Their funding and staff involvement make workshops, repair projects, and circular initiatives possible, creating lasting social and environmental impact.
How Six Senses are involved
Six Senses Residences Courchevel has partnered with the One Tree at a Time for the last three years to promote a local circular economy for outdoor apparel. The partnership supports not only financially but also through Six Senses staff contributing time and expertise by attending projects, workshops, and community activities.
Rather than letting outdoor clothing, which often contains plastics and is carbon‑intensive, go to landfill or be exported where its end‑of‑life is untraceable, the partnership focuses on repairing, reusing and upcycling garments. Through the Six Senses support, One Tree at a Time employs local people to sort, patch, and redesign outdoor wear, delivers repair workshops for both adults and children, and raises awareness about sustainable practices in the local community.
Six Senses’ funding and backing help expand employment, increase workshop delivery, and grow solutions to reduce waste that can’t yet be reused. The result is that a high percentage of repaired goods remain in the local economy, and together we grow local skills.
This partnership exemplifies how Six Senses uses its Sustainability Fund and community engagement to support grassroots circular solutions that reduce waste, create local livelihoods, and inspire broader behavioural change, turning resort sustainability commitments into tangible environmental and social impact.
Project
Made to be worn
Made to be Worn celebrates clothing by keeping outdoor gear in use. Garments are patched, repaired, adapted, and re-waterproofed, then shared within the community with a QR-coded system that tracks their journeys and stories. Each jacket records the adventures and everyday moments of its wearer, highlighting the value, life, and possibilities in clothing that might otherwise go to landfill. The project encourages sustainable consumption, fosters connection, and gives garments a new story with every handover.
Project
Street Bag
We’ve developed sleeping bag/coats (a street bag) by converting two ski trousers into a sleeping bag that attaches to a ski jacket, creating a waterproof, transportable garment for people living on the streets. The pockets are filled with ski socks and a beanie for extra warmth. Prototypes have been tested with Cantine Savoyarde Solidarité in Chambéry, and we have now made and delivered over 50 bags, also supporting the organisation with surplus food.
Project
Our Community Hub
The community hub would not exist without the vital funding and support from Six Senses. The hub serves as a space for repairing, upcycling, and adapting outdoor gear, running workshops, and supporting local initiatives like Made to be Worn and the sleeping bag/coat project. It brings people together, provides skills training, fosters sustainable practices, and acts as a base for community-led action that keeps clothing in use and out of landfill.
Project
UN/PARA/LD
UN/PARA/LD (Unparalleled) transforms surplus ski and outdoor clothing into adaptive alpine apparel co-designed by disabled people for disabled people. The project began thanks to the funding and support from Six Senses, which allowed us to launch workshops, develop prototypes, and build the collaborative model that continues to drive inclusive, sustainable outdoor sports. As well as tell our story through a film.
