Outdoor clothing, the clues in the name
At One Tree at a Time, our mission is simple: to keep outdoor gear in use. Instead of heading to landfill or sitting forgotten in wardrobes, we work as a community to get clothing back where it belongs – outside.
We patch, repair, adapt, and service garments, giving them new life. In doing so, we create new adventures, new stories, and a new relationship with the things we wear.
Locally, this approach has changed the way we think about clothing and consumption. To celebrate that shift, we’re launching Made to be Worn – a project about valuing what we already own.
Keeping clothing from landfill
We recently received a large donation of ski instructor uniforms from Supreme Ski & Snowboard School. At the One Tree community hub, the team has been busy carefully patching over instructor logos, making any necessary repairs, adapting them for sit-skiing and re-waterproofing the garments.
What would normally have gone to landfill, or been exported to places that don’t need ski gear because of its branding, is now heading back outside, ready to be worn again.
Some of the clothing will be resold to help fund the One Tree community space. But, we have another idea. Several jackets are being donated directly to the Made to be Worn project and will be shared through the UN/PARA/LD, community groups, and local people.

How does it work?
Made to be Worn is about celebrating clothing. It’s about celebrating stories.
It’s about celebrating what’s possible when we share.
Each jacket becomes part of a growing story, shaped by the people who wear it, the places it goes, and the experiences it collects along the way.
Step 1
Jackets are patched, repaired, adapted, and fully serviced.
Step 2
A QR code is added to one of the patches.
Step 3
The jacket is given to someone in the community.
Step 4
They wear it for one week, taking photos and short videos as they go about their life.
Step 5
At the end of the week, they pass the jacket on to someone new and take a photo of the handover.
Step 6
Using the QR code, they upload some photos and info about what the jacket has got up to that week.
Step 7
We share the stories, receive feedback, and the jacket heads off on its next adventure.
Support in the mountains
FreeRide Republic is a community united by our love of snow-covered mountains, FreeRide skiing and snow boarding. We are forever in pursuit of fresh powder and the perfect off-piste line, all the while showing the mountains respect, making the effort to learn about the environment we’re heading into and how to stay safe up there.
And, we’re getting involved with the ‘Made to be Worn’ project. What better way to support our local environment than by supporting local community action?
Our mountain landscapes are fragile and our decisions impact them. It’s time to celebrate and champion new stories.
A day on the mountain isn’t just about the latest kit or newest trend, it’s about community and shared fun times. And, the ‘Made to be Worn’ project celebrates just that. So, keep your eyes peeled on the slopes as we’ll be the ones repping a different outdoor industry model.
Telling stories
Ultimately, Made to be Worn is about recording the life of a garment. We want to capture the small, ordinary moments as much as the big adventures, whether a jacket kept you dry on the way to work, allowed you to take a longer dog walk, joined you on the mountain, made adventure accessible, or was worn while working in the garden. By collecting and sharing these stories, we hope to change how people see clothing. Not as disposable or trend-led, but as something valuable, capable, and full of life.
Each story adds to the history of the jacket, showing just how much use, joy, and possibility is still woven into the things we already own.
